Paolo Carignani
After graduating from the Verdi Conservatory of Milan in Composition, Organ and Piano, Paolo Carignani studied Orchestra Conducting with Alceo Galliera.
His vast repertoire goes from Donizetti to Puccini, from Rossini to Strauss and Verdi that has brought him to the world’s prestigious theatres such as Staatsoper in Vienna, Staatsoper and Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Munich Opera House, Royal Opera House Covent Garden of London, Opéra Bastille in Paris, Opera House in Zurich, Concertgebouw and the Royal Opera House of Amsterdam, Metropolitan Opera, Gran Teatre del Lice in Barcelona, and Opera houses in Brussels, Antwerpen and Oslo as well as to the major Italian Theatres.
He is a regular guest at important international Festivals: Spoleto Festival, the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Glyndebourne Festival, Schleswig Holstein Festival, Rheingau Festival and several others.
Paolo Carignani worked in the symphonic repertoire with numerous orchestras, among which the Munchner Philharmoniker, the Gothenburg Symphony, Detroit and Oregon Symphony Orchestra, the Yomiuri Nippon Orchestra, the German radio symphony orchestras of NDR and WDR, the Austrian ORF, the Italian RAI and the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Paolo Carignani was the Generalmusikdirektor of the Opera House of Frankfurt from 1998/9 through to 2008/9 and the Musical Director of the Museumsorchester in Frankfurt.
He has just conducted Nabucco at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and his future plans include: Le Convenienze e Inconvenienze Teatrali and Otello in Zurich; Die Fledermaus, La Bohème, Aida and Luisa Miller in Munich; Tosca in Toronto, in Paris; Simon Boccanegra in Vienna; Le Duc d’Albe in Antwerp; Nabucco, Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci at the Japan Opera Fundation in Tokyo; Edgar at the Salzburg Festival; Guillaume Tell in Amsterdam; Nabucco and Tosca in Vienna and Barcelona.
